Our Story
The team came up from the determination to put into play our passion for life sciences outside of our degree program. It all started with the curiosity of one student, who discovered the iGEM international competition and then built a team, composed of students in Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, Medicine, and Biology here at the University of Padova.
We were thrilled and a little scared to take part in such a challenge. “How can we as second-year students compete with the most prestigious universities in the world?” we thought. Someone to help us with the project was definitely needed. Thankfully, we met some great professors who support us from the beginning and guide us during our first steps.
We are driven by curiosity
The fundamental points that led us to join this team were getting involved beyond the lessons we attend at the faculty, competing with our peers from all over the world, and collaborating with colleagues from other courses.
In this way, we not only learn to work in a group and to dialogue between different worlds but also the creative approach that this challenge requires, having to tackle issues of a more “entrepreneurial” essence that deviates from our regular course of study. One example is advertising the project through a website and social media to receive the necessary funds.
In addition, the international nature of the competition will be an opportunity to improve our language. For these reasons, we are determined to participate in the next year’s edition of the iGEM competition.
Renewal is the key
We desire to create a strong team that can last over time, even once we have completed our journey. We believe there is space for a project in this field within our university that could become a landmark for anyone passionate about life sciences.
